February is Save Your Vision Month and the best thing you can do to help your vision is to get a comprehensive eye examination. This is the best way in which your eye doctor can tell you how healthy your eyes are and they can make recommendations to help keep your eyes healthy.
First off, what entails a comprehensive eye exam?
A comprehensive eye exam includes many things including:
- Medical history/Eye history/Family History
- Vision check
- Pupil function
- Tracking ability
- Peripheral vision
- Color vision
- Depth perception (kids)
- Refraction (eyeglass prescription)
- Intraocular pressure
- Dilation eye drops
- Assessment of the front of eye (eyelids/eyelashes/cornea/iris/lens, etc)
- Assessment of the back of the eye (retina) – Photos/scans if needed
Once your eye doctor completes their exam they will educate you on their findings and make recommendations on what is best to keep your eyes healthy. These things may include eyeglasses/contact lenses, sunglasses, eye drops, vitamin supplements, surgical options, etc.
