With it being wintertime the general feeling of dryness is everywhere. You feel it on your hands, you feel it on your face and you may even feel it in your eyes. You may be using over the counter lubricating eyedrops multiple times per day but only getting minimal or no relief at all. This is when a prescription dry eye drop is necessary. Previous options include Restasis and Xiidra but now there is a new drop on the market called Cequa

Cequa is cyclsporine 0.09% which differs from Restasis in that Restasis also is cyclsporine but at a lower concentration of 0.05%. The other difference between Cequa and Restasis is that Cequa uses different technology to penetrate the eye. Cyclosporine has difficulties penetrating something that is highly hydrophilic (water loving) like the tears. This new technology protects the medication from the tears to get through to the cornea where it can work to improve tear production by decreasing inflammation.
If you or someone you know suffers from dry eyes and would like to be evaluated to see if Cequa can work for you then please call (860) 233-2020 to schedule an appointment with one of our eye care doctors today.
