Hopefully all of you out there are staying safe during the Coronavirus pandemic.  This blog entry is more for the parents out there who have your kids home for the foreseeable future and are concerned about screen time.  The previous entry discussed importance of controlling the amount of screen time your child is exposed to prevent nearsightedness/myopia progression.  One option for treatment is to use specialty contact lenses.  One such option that will be brand new to the market soon is MiSight.

MiSight 1 day contact lenses are daily disposable contact lenses that are worn by children ages 8-12.  The lenses do have prescription in them so that your child will see from a distance but they have specific optics that help to reduce the signal to the eye to continue to grow (nearsightedness/myopia).  With continued daily use of these contact lenses it will continue to reduce the signal and your child may have smaller changes in their prescription than larger changes.  There are no guarantees that it will stop progression but it can help along with lifestyle changes of playing outside in natural sunlight and less time indoors looking at screens.

Solinsky Eyecare currently does not have MiSight as an option but will look to get it in the future.  If your child is nearsighted/myopic and you would like more information about ways to slow the progression of their prescription call (860) 233-2020 today.
